Photographs Of Newcastle: HMS Tyne - Whitehill Point, North Shields

HMS Tyne, which is twinned with Tynemouth, arrived in the river which gave its name to the vessel for a series of special events on July 10th 2014.

HMS Tyne is the sixth Royal Navy vessel to bear the name and is one of the busiest ships in the Fleet spending on average nine out of every ten days of the year at sea.

Her primary role is enforcement of national and EU fisheries legislation within British Fishery limits but she can also be called on to help environmental protection, search and rescue, and maritime security.

With a crew of just 42, split into three watches, the ship is able to patrol for in excess of 300 days per year.
