Shields Ferry

There has been a ferry service across the Tyne between the communities of North and South Shields since the 14th century.

Nexus now runs the only remaining cross Tyne ferry which carries almost three quarters of a million passengers every year.

River cruises and private hire trips are also run to enable people to view the changing face of life and industry along the banks of the River Tyne between Shields and Newcastle. In total, nearly 25,000 ferry trips are made every year.
