Work has started on plans to improve pedestrian areas around Pilgrim Street and the Swan House roundabout.
The subway connecting Swan House to Pilgrim Street, just north of the Mosley Street junction, will be filled in along with the associated ramps and stairs. The other subway at the lower end of Pilgrim Street will remain.
Plans for Pilgrim Street will include resurfacing, new paving, improved pedestrian crossing facilities and a new two-way cycle lane.
