Scotswood - Lower Delaval Estate
The Lower Delaval Estate, in Scotswood, was earmarked for demolition seven years ago as part of a regeneration scheme.
The residents have now left but 130 properties remain, as council chiefs continue to try and reach an agreement with the freeholders of the site over service charge arrears.

The estate has finally been demolished and here is one photo that I took during the demolition.

It`s like a ghost town. What are they proposing to do with it? Solidly built homes were knocked down all around the area, sub standard ones built and since demolished or derelict. The old buildings could have been refurbished so that the communities could remain together.
It is rather surreal wandering around the estate and also what I call the ghost roads to the west of that estate where all the houses once were.
I'm not sure what they plan to do with the area though. If I find out I'll post it up here.
It is a real shame that the older, better houses in the area are pulled down as the problem is not with the houses just a few idiots spoiling the area for everyone.
I'll be back in Scotswood soon to photograph the area north of Scotswood bridge in case that estate goes the same way as the others!

I'm guessing you might have seen this site before Facebook - Old Scotwood and Old Pictures Of Newcastle's west end - Scotswood. They are both packed with old photos.
