St Mary's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, the mother-church of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The Cathedral was designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and built between 1842 and 1844. The cathedral is a grade I listed building and a fine example of the Gothic Revival style of architecture championed by Pugin.

many years ago, Cardinal Basil Hulme visted my children's junior school in North London as part of its' centenary celebrations, my eldest daughter was one of the pupils selected to meet him. When it was her turn to be introduced she presented him with an NUFC lapel badge; he was amazed and asked how she knew he was a Newcastle supporter... we could do with his prayers now.... relegation looms
