On a wander I came across this bridge in Wallsend Burn. It is now shut to traffic but is still open for the public to cross for now although for it is only a matter of time.
I took a few photos as I was amazed that the bridge was still able to be crossed even on foot as it looks very unstable.

North Tyneside Council are attempting to raise funds to have the bridge preserved - more than likely on the basis that it will be for foot traffic as opposed to vehicular.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to take some work and money to save that bridge. If you hav'nt seen it you should take the opportunity, quickly, as it seems to be sinking by the month!
ReplyDeleteI lived not far from the bridge. Its a part of my life and memories of Wallsend. I feel sad that it is in such a poor state. It must mean a longer journey for people to get to Holy Cross from Wallsend when it is closed to traffic.
